A challenge for makers

Canada-based Makers Making Change never stops innovating.

They combine a healthy dose of challenge and inspiration in their work.

And if you love the spirit of competition, as you use maker skills to create a better, more accessible world, they have you in mind.

Just recently, Makers Making Change announced that they'd partnered with Bambu Lab and six 3D printing focused accessibility organizations, to launch the Make for Good global accessibility design challenge!

Hosted on MakerWorld, the world’s largest platform for sharing, downloading, and printing 3D models, the contest identifies 24 accessibility needs for people with disabilities.

Makers are invited to choose one of the needs, create their ideas through 3D printing and upload their original 3D models. Entries must be printable on an FDM printer, according to the contest rules, and the entry deadline is November 15th.

Winning files in each category will be added to open libraries and distributed through volunteer networks that already deliver devices in more than 70 countries, according to Makers Making Change's website.

Oh--and Grand Prize winners receive a Bambu Lab A1 3D Printer, too.

Wowing the world, virtually

"This is all free. And run by volunteers."

That thought kept running through my mind while attending the Immersive X Annual VR Festival in November 2025.

In three days, presenters offered dance performances, interactive theatre, workshops, discussion groups and parties--all in virtual space, as we discussed recent developments in XR, and where it was headed in the future.

It was easily one of the best conferences I've ever attended--and this November, it's happening again.

Immersive X 2026 runs from Tuesday, November 10th through Thursday, November 12th on multiple platforms. There will also be guided onboarding sessions on Monday, November 9th, to get new users accustomed to any VR platforms with which they're unfamiliar.

Here is the link to the full program for the conference, which is organized and curated by Curator Thomas Zorbach, Founder and CEO of Berlin-based full-service agency vm-people. With the theme of "Reclaim the Future", it promises to be both a lot of fun and an inspiring time of exchanging ideas with participants from all over the world. Here's the link to register.

And as Thomas says, Immersive X is more than a conference; it's a community. Throughout the year, he and his colleagues also host "X Nights" monthly VR events, and everyone's invited. Here's where to register.

See you next week!

October 2026 A Goodbye--and a Hello (Royalty-free image by Jan Vasek from Pixabay.) After weeks of speculation, the official news came out on Friday. ENGAGE XR's last day is Saturday, October 31st. Like many others who enjoyed multiple events in this innovative platform, I'm truly sorry things ended this way. However, one closure doesn't stop creativity. Academy of Immersive Arts and Sciences President Ben Erwin has a wonderful "PSA" post on LinkedIn, in which he offers guidance for backing...

IMMERSIVE X Global XR Festival is an event unlike any other we've ever attended. Completely virtual, and completely free, this three-day conference--though "conference" barely describes it--happens on multiple platforms, and encourages everyone to experience, and get involved with, virtual reality. And it's just about to happen again. (Royalty-free image by Enrique...
