This and That About VR

Where isn't VR an interesting experience to explore?

As we look forward to IMMERSIVE X 2026, here are some applications you might like.

Interactive beyond the footlights

This weekend, we had the pleasure of attending Ferryman Collective's new show, Strangeways: The Only Way Out is Through.

Beyond the fun of seeing this groundbreaking independent theatre company's spectacular virtual space, the performance was top-notch.

Strangeways is the first show produced through Ferryman Collective's new VR Theatre Apprenticeship program and developed by inaugural apprentice Tanvi Agarwal,.

But maybe "show" isn't a word that does it justice--since that implies sitting still and watching the stage.

This interactive experience engages audience members with neurodivergent artist "Echo", who escorts them through a series of surreal, black-and-white worlds. These settings can be unsettling, humorous and thought-provoking--sometimes all at once.

Echo is on a journey--which I won't ruin by saying much more. Suffice to say, what's happening is highly relatable and ultimately inspiring, with the common ground of our human experience as a starting point for feeling seen.

I'd highly recommend Strangeways, but it's far from your only opportunity to experience the talents of the gifted artists of Ferryman Collective.

2026 marks the first year of their repertory season--and they also have four other shows on their "Now Showing" page--including "Uncanny Alley", which recently won an Emmy!

A new beginning

Meanwhile, the beta is now open for Altspace VR! Can't tell you much more about it yet, but I'm absolutely downloading the beta to try some worldbuilding.

And SideQuest CEO Shane Harris, who acquired the rights to Altspace and will be re-launching it shortly, is scheduled to give everyone an update as one of the featured speakers during IMMERSIVE X in November!

And, that's it for now!

See you next week!

October 2026 A Goodbye--and a Hello (Royalty-free image by Jan Vasek from Pixabay.) After weeks of speculation, the official news came out on Friday. ENGAGE XR's last day is Saturday, October 31st. Like many others who enjoyed multiple events in this innovative platform, I'm truly sorry things ended this way. However, one closure doesn't stop creativity. Academy of Immersive Arts and Sciences President Ben Erwin has a wonderful "PSA" post on LinkedIn, in which he offers guidance for backing...

IMMERSIVE X Global XR Festival is an event unlike any other we've ever attended. Completely virtual, and completely free, this three-day conference--though "conference" barely describes it--happens on multiple platforms, and encourages everyone to experience, and get involved with, virtual reality. And it's just about to happen again. (Royalty-free image by Enrique...
